April: Sharing & Serving
This month we learned more about sharing and serving one another. We learned that we can experience joy in giving to others. It is harder to share and serve when we receive nothing in return...but there is still a lesson of joy just in the giving. It is not a selfish giving, but learning to have joy just in making someone else happy. Serving from the heart is a big lesson...we'll always need more and more learning on this one! I especially liked this quote from the lesson this month, "Once your child understands the beauty in serving, they will live their life looking for ways to help others in need, even if it means giving up something they value." I've been reading about Mother Teresa and realize the joy she experienced daily by giving up everything she could. I'll post more later about my readings and ponderings on her life. It's a doozy!
Our very own family recipe for Sharing/Serving went like this:
a mind-full of others
an arm-full of hugs
a heart-full of love
a mouth-full of kind words
an eye-full of seeing what others need
a hand-full of doing things for others
a pinch-full of generosity and unselfishness
We came up with these things to explain how we show sharing/serving in our home...
fixing meals, letting Jud write on the chalkboard too
sharing and playing with toys together
mommy making school box lunches
feeding our pets
taking the trash out
putting mail in the mail box
cleaning up our messes
We're all a work in progress. But, we are happy to share the process with you! It's an uphill climb!

Hi--I found your blog linked at relevantgirl blog. I was intrigued, because I am a Texas girl who moved here to Newtown, CT (about 50 miles from NYC) when my husband got a new job in Stamford almost 2 years ago. Christians here refer to themselves as the "frozen chosen." It's a different culture, but we know that God called us here, and we are beginning to call it "home."
It has been 1.5 years and we too are calling our city, NYC, home. We are really enjoying the diversity that surrounds us. Our big city is a place where diversity is indeed the culture. We are always learning and growing while we try to serve the city and the people in our community. Along our journey, we continue to discover that Christians need the city as much as Christians often think the city needs them.
You are a wise and wonderful godly mom to be teaching your little ones these lessons!!
Mother Teresa is a great one to learn from about serving and giving all of ourselves to bless others!!
