1 Chronicles 16:12 tells us to remember the wonders God has done. God commands us to remember, but why? When we remember what God has done, our response is greater faith and prayers of thanksgiving and praise. Remembering shows me that He is indeed faithful. If He was faithful then, I can trust He will be faithful both now and forever. Remembering also leads me to thank Him for what He has done and for the promises He has in store for me. Remembering evokes praise for who God is no matter what because He has indeed been good and faithful to His children. As you start the new year, make it a point to write down the wonders He has done in 2010. At the end of the year, your family can remember the blessings from the year.

One of our families shared with me a great way to intentionally remember God’s blessings. At the beginning of the year, they decorate a jar and label it “The Blessing Jar.” The jar is kept out in one of the main rooms, and as the kids, parents or family as a whole experiences God’s wonders, they write it on a slip of paper and put it in the blessing jar. They write down funny stories, prayers, accomplishments, observations of how a family member has grown, or even hard things that produced good things. At the end of the year, they sit down and read all the blessings God has allowed them to experience.

This year, I encourage you to keep a record of God’s wonders and blessings so that at the end of the year your family can sit down and remember. I pray that as you remember, He would increase your faith in Him and what He has promised and lead you to greater thanksgiving and praise.

Great stuff about remembering God's faithfulness throughout the year in your family. There are so many ways to do this, but the point is to even in the simplest way to jot down what God has done. Kids have a special perspective on the little things that we adults sometimes overlook as true acts of God's goodness. Look through their lenses and you'll see countless wonders that point to God's faithfulness in big ways. I think we'll try the blessing jar or start a faith journal? Hope you give it a shot too!
