Your Corner

8:24 AM. Corner of 79th and York. Every school day. In a heavy New York accent-"WAKE UP, YOU SLEEPY HEADS! GOOD MORNING!"

This is what we hear on our way to Neeley's school each morning. Neeley looks forward to getting to this corner to see if our crossing guard is going to keep up her expected routine. Sure enough, we can hear her from a block away! Neeley's face lights up with a great big smile as she nudges me and says, "She said it, Mom, She said it!"

Now, there are other corners with other crossing guards, but this is the corner we look forward to approaching. You see, Mary Ann, our crossing guard, makes a difference on her corner. Her corner is special. Kids look forward to getting there. She gets some glaring eyes from some grown ups, but she doesn't care. She makes it her job to not only keep "her" school kids safe but to keep them happy, too. She lights up her corner warming our spirits and brightening our sometimes grumpy mornings. Do we do that?

Really. Do we do this in our own "corners" of our world? We are placed by God's design on a corner in life. What is YOUR corner? It could be a corner in your home surrounded by kids, a corner in the business world, a corner in your weekly visits to the same store, a corner in starbucks... What IS your corner? Some corners are temporary, some are a lifetime. Make a difference. Your corner is special. Light up your corner, warm spirits, and brighten the dark places around you.
